19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

He rescued four initial chances in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
